Artist-in-Residence

Amabelle Aguiluz

June-October 2027

“I am looking forward to being part of an artist residency that will give me the time and space to create a new body of work. In the most recent years, I have had two children and my personal experiences have opened up a new portal of creative expression that I am eager to explore through textile art using various processes such as knitting, weaving, quilting, and fiber collage.

Being part of a supportive group of artists, having a mentor, and creating community would encourage me to experiment with new ideas and build on my current practice.”

Artist Statement:

Water is a driving force in my work. I explore ways in which water heals the body and mind. I am interested in thinking about water, sound, and vibrations to create textile art that examines personal experiences, transitions, and impermanence.

My art practice combines traditional and unconventional textile techniques to make fiber sculptures, installations and weavings. I use a combination of movement meditation, sound, video, and performance in my process to understand my own life and the human experience. The work is a reflection and connection with self, others, memory, and time.
