About Us

Blue Roof Studios was founded in 2016 by Los Angeles-based artist Galia Linn. It is a multidisciplinary art hub located in South Los Angeles that invites artists to work in an environment of creativity and community. Through studio residencies, mentorship, and public programs.  In 2020 Linn founded Arts at Blue Roof (AaBR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Blue Roof seeks to build long-term relationships with artists and audiences to support accessible arts programs and meaningful arts experiences.

HISTORY

MISSON

Blue Roof’s mission is to provide women artists a studio of their own and the financial resources to experience the freedom to explore, investigate, and create in a dedicated safe space. We build an environment where artists in residence engage in conversations with visiting artists, curators, donors and collectors which inspire relationships, connections, and opportunities.

VALUES

We believe that art is essential to the wellbeing and vitality of our lives. Art builds bridges which connects, inspires, and broadens our intellectual and emotional capacities while helping us envision and communicate new possibilities. Art helps us see the world in which we live from a fresh perspective, and urges us to reflect on what it means to be human. AaBR is dedicated to supporting artists whose work pushes boundaries elevating underrecognized voices.

VISION

Arts at Blue Roof is a woman and artist-led residency created to address the lack of affordable studio space, the gender wage gap, and the lack of access to art-related opportunities to historically marginalized people in South Los Angeles.

We envision a community where the love of art is rooted in every heart, a community where people are empowered to express themselves confidently and creatively within all of art's manifestations.

We value:

  • Repairing the World (Tikkun Olam)
We believe it is our responsibility to leave the world more just, peaceful, tolerant and equal space than what we found.

  • Place
We feel that providing a room of one’s own gives women the essential freedom to create uninhibitedly outside of their homes free from distractions and everyday responsibilities.

  • Creativity
We foster an environment that supports the generation of ideas, alternatives, and possibilities that are useful in solving problems and communicating with others.

  • Compassion
We embrace compassion as an action.
