Artist-in-Residence
Christine Lee
October 2027-January 2028
What I'm looking forward to most is the freedom of a dedicated space, room to experiment with materials, scale, and space without hesitation or expectation, and the conversations I'll get to have along the way with fellow artists and the community around me. I'm curious and excited about where this will take my work.

Artist Statement:
I am a visual artist working primarily in video, performance, and drawing. Raised in the American South by immigrant parents from South Korea, my practice explores the performativity of identity formation, often using the body to resist dominant power structures by generating imaginative narratives for the future. Drawing from East Asian and American folklore, global political histories, and viral phenomena, I build interconnected worlds that collide fantasy with reality as sites for cultural, psychological, and socio-political discovery. I play with embodiment and spectatorship through avatars and characters as a form of agency—a way to reexamine ideas of authenticity, nationhood, and desire in relation to self-construction. My material explorations reflect the poetics informed by these notions and are activated in my videos as costumes, props, and set designs. Through intersectional inquiry and storytelling, I aim to illuminate the distinct and parallel threads of the human experience and provide pathways for connection.
