“I look forward to removing the local variables which inevitably project on my work/existence as an artist in hope to reevaluate my position in a totally different environment.”
-Sigalit Landau, Chapter 2 2025 AiR
Artist Statement:
These days are days in which I am establishing my next stepping stone while gazing back at the trails and the ripples left behind me. Experienced in composing multimedia installations in which I attempt to tell stories - I follow my intuition, my bare instincts and a poetic approach even in the midst of post October 7th Israel. The escalation of extreme violence in the Israeli - Palestinian conflict continues taking more and more dangerous curves, the huge trauma that hit Israel throbs on. Political derangement is an affliction which isn’t only local. Can my art offer this chaotic reality anything else but hesitant hope in the form of morning and lament? Can art be an analogue light house in a reality which is at once petrifying as it is invisible? What is relevant to the reality of a singular studio? What will my observations and memories of other days bring to the surface once the noise softens? I intend to process some of these issues, hopefully and playfully in my “Chapter 2” time. Being physically distant will, I hope, offer me some perspective. Living in a different time zone without the “state of alarm” knocking at my door will be a big change which I look forward. I expect that I will concentrate, in LA, on drawing, writing, making models for new works, photography and painting. I have a tendency to produce work which involves other people in large scale - a temporary halt of this mode might be challenging and possibly rewarding. Meeting myself, after so many years of collaboration, is a worthy goal. I will aim at processing issues which I put aside along the years. This will be the ultimate stepping stone, for now, for me: like jumping off a train in motion. I look forward to removing the local variables which inevitably project on my work/existence as an artist in hope to reevaluate my position in a totally different environment
