Artist Statement:
I am a painter. My work is rooted in personal experience and explores everyday life. Domestic interiors recur throughout my work. Looking back, I see them as an ongoing search for stability and permanence: an appeal to an imagined home. Through painting, drawing, and
autobiographical narratives, I transform chaos in my life into visual form. Painting is a home for me.
I often begin my paintings from direct observation. From there, I gradually move toward the deconstruction of color, space, and composition. As the painting evolves, it becomes independent of what I see. At this point, I rediscover light, depth, and form through color, texture, line, shape, and the painted mark. The process itself is what matters most. Painting for me is a way of living, of observing, experimenting, leaving things unresolved, finding and losing.
My practice continues the tradition of modernist painting. Growing up during the final decades of the Soviet era, I was shaped by the visual language of modernism. After years of distancing myself from it, I found my way back to that tradition through painting. Today, I continue to explore its possibilities through my own painterly language and contemporary experience.
